Gratitude Journaling + Backless Maxi Dress Round-Up

On Thursday, I wrote about feeling exhausted and being in kind of a negative space filled with self-doubt. I HATE getting into these funks because it can lead to such a downward spiral in my mood. Usually I do a pretty good job at staying fairly strong and upbeat, but HEY, we are all human and our inner thoughts can get the best of us! One thing that I used to do daily, in the throes of my worst days, was write in a gratitude journal. AND, I think that it is time for me to bring that practice back into my arsenal to combat any negative thoughts. I think it is unfortunately easier for us humans to sometimes focus on the things that we think are going wrong in our lives, instead of taking a reflective look around and highlighting all the amazing things that are going RIGHT! Honestly, keeping a gratitude journal was hugely therapeutic for me, and helped me realize just how LUCKY I really am. I didn't want to leave you guys hanging, thinking that I would just give up and stay in my funk-SO, I wanted to share more about this practice with you all, incase you want to join me in picking ourselves up by our bootstraps again, AND start your own journal as well!

In order to start this process up again, I did some research (as I usually do with everything important to me in life), and I came across this really …

Self Doubt + Perseverance + My New Favorite Leggings Brand

The mantra I have seriously needed to focus on lately in life has been ALL about perseverance. Anybody else feel me? I have really had to rely on this mantra in all aspects of life, especially at the end of the school year here, because MAN my energy is slowly dwindling. I notice that when I feel really exhausted, I can get into a negative space inside my head, and that ominous shadow of self doubt just slowly creeps in and starts to take over. I'm constantly thinking Why did I do that? Why did I say that? You should just give up trying that! I don't know if that is just the exhaustion talking or what! I think any teacher (or professional) can relate- by the end of the year or season, it's like your engine is just running out of major steam, and you feel like you are operating on exhaust fumes. BUT, my students deserve to continue to receive the best from me, AND that is what I will give them to the best of my ability. BUT, hey, it's not just my students that deserve my best- I, too, deserve to give MYSELF my best. My theory is that if I am consistently striving to be the best version of ME that I can be, it makes it so much easier to be present and stronger for others in my life who need me as well. I think women are especially guilty of, giving, giving …

Finding a Path Away From Prejudgment + Jumpsuits

If you have been following my blog, you probably have noticed that I, of course, LOVE fashion and sharing the latest trends and such with all of you. BUT, I also really enjoy sharing things that are weighing on my mind and heart-some serious topics and some silly topics- but nonetheless, topics that are important to me. Hopefully you find this format appealing, because I feel like this blog is a bit of a metaphor for my real personality over here- serious, mindful, and reflective YET fun, crazy, and (trying to be) fashionable. I honestly think it would be disingenuous on my part to write in any different style for all of you because then you wouldn't be getting the full perspective of who I am. I always kind of find it a bit insulting when someone sees a person who loves to wear makeup, do their hair, and dress up, AND they immediately prejudge that person as not having many cerebral thoughts to bring to the table- OR, they immediately go to OH, she must be a very shallow person right away without even engaging in a discussion. I am here to say, that just because you may physically see one thing in a person, does NOT mean that you see the FULL picture! AND, that goes for ALL types of people!

We are ALL guilty of prejudging- don't act like we're not. BUT, this is something that I have been trying really hard to be aware of within …

Finding Your Happily Ever After + Wedding Guest Dresses

Aaron and I were in Chicago this weekend so Aaron could standup in his best friend's wedding. I am always so emotional at weddings, AND this wedding was no exception. When two people are lucky enough to find each other in this crazy world, it just gives me MAJOR goosebumps because there was a point in my life (not too long ago) that I thought that this was just not possible. I thought it would be fun to share with you guys today how Aaron and I first found each other, and then keep scrolling to see some links to my top dresses I rounded up for you to wear for the upcoming wedding season!

Aaron and I with the handsome groom- LOVE this guy!

SO, I had sworn off ALL men after my very rough divorce four years ago. I had been with my ex-husband since high school, a total of 15 years, and I guess I didn't know that I was in such an intensely unhealthy relationship because I had never …

Wellies For All Budgets

So I have to admit that I have a love/hate relationship with spring. I obviously LOVE that I don't freeze my face off every time I step outside; I LOVE that I can wear my fun spring clothes with wedges, sandals, OR no shoes at all, AND I LOVE that I can get outside and do some landscaping and gardening in the yard. I also am currently realllly LOVING sneezing about 100 times in a row, and not being able to see out of the little slits where my eyes should be...OK, maybe not! Every spring, my allergies seriously blow up- BUT, I really do LOVE spending time outdoors as much as possible because we don't get that many opportunities to do so in Wisconsin. So I will probably look like this guy for the next five months because I refuse to give up on the outdoors... Hang in there, MAN! I'm with ya!

Pollen meme

Another SUPER fun thing I always look forward to in spring are the land mines of dog droppings that have slowly dropped down to the ground after the snow has slowly melted away. YUCK! Since we have two dogs, and I refuse to go around picking up after them in below zero weather, our yard kind resembles a farm field with piles of manure after the first thaw. YIKES! Last week I made the mistake of running into the yard barefoot while trying to untangle my dog's tie-out leash...UMMMM, let me just say that I ran …

Pressure to Be Perfect, But You GO Rock That Casual Look If You Want To Girl

This topic has been weighing on my heart lately- the pressure to have the perfect look and be all put together, all the time, is REAL! My desire for this blog will always be to share with all of you what it's really like in ALL facets of my world, not just the parts where I get all glammed up... Instead I vow to share the good, the bad, and everything in between- Because, let me tell you right now, I am the furthest thing from having it all together all the time!! I may not post the crazy pics of myself often- but trust me, that doesn't mean I don't have crazy looking days! There are soooo many days when I am so exhausted after teaching all day, keeping up with my exercise routine, cleaning, running a household (and the list goes on and on), that I probably look and feel like I've been electrocuted! My hair is sticking up and out in all directions; I am sitting there in my sweaty workout clothes five hours after working out because I am too tired to rip my stupid sports bra off (that's hard work, ladies, especially when it's stuck to the sweat on your body); my make-up has probably run off and gotten completely smudged, AND I definitely don't have a nice, fresh glow. I really actually rock the exhausted chic look A LOT-that's a thing, RIGHT?!?! This is the real LISA that everyone gets most of the time. …

I hope all of you ladies out there have a beyond AMAZING best friend like I do, because I literally could NOT live without her!!
